Do yourself a favor and go see the new Star Wars

December 20, 2016

So I felt like I was on the outside looking in when it came to Star Wars as of late.  Not because I am one of the whackos that somehow have never watched a single Star Wars film, actaully that is the furthest from the truth!  Growing up, I was HOOKED on Star Wars.  My parents took me to the theater to see the re-releases, and from there, I couldn't get enough.  Shirts, toys, books, trading cards, you name it, I liked it.  Then the new movies came out, episodes 1-3, and I saw all of them on opening night.  I also liked them, especially episode 3, I that's one of my favorites, and for some reason people hate that movie.  So when I discovered episode 7 was coming out, I was just as excited as anyone else. So my friends and I all go opening night, and after the movie, I left feeling cheated.

The movie just wasn't good.  It was cookie cutter, simple, and pretty much a remake of episode four, even though the movie was supposed to be a continuation of the story line.  I thought there was no substance to the movie.  It was simple, a family movie, a movie that everyone could see and understand and leave happy.  BUt that's not what Star Wars is for me.  Star Wars is a story of another galaxy, with a lot of moving parts throughout.  I understand Disney got the rights and family friendly is their thing, but they played it too safe.  Well, my review and thoughts of the movie upset my other star wars friends.  They told me I was way off, that I didn't know what I was talking about, and I was being too hard on the movie.

Yes, I was being hard on the movie.  It's Star Wars, one of the greatest movie franchises of all time.   It needs to be judged harder than other movies, and that movie didnt live up to the hype.  So when the newest Star Wars movie, Rouge One, came out last week, it came as no surprise my invite got "lost in the mail."  But thats ok, I wasn't expecting a lot, especially after that last movie, and decided to go Sunday.

Well was I wrong!  I told my buddy (an avid Star Wars fan) after the movie, "I feel like I actually came out of a Star Wars movie."  This movie was everything episode 7 SHOULD HAVE been.  A long story, lots of characters, you actually had to pay attention to the story to follow what was going on. It had a new feel, while keeping that same charm Star Wars was known for.  I don't want to spoil anything for anyone, but if you can leave the theaters not happy with Rouge One, then maybe Star Wars isnt for you.  If you do like Star Wars, and haven't seen this movie yet, do yourself a favor and go see it!
