As Kate Pearson struggles to get her music career off the ground on This Is Us, actress Chrissy Metz is making moves in real life.

Metz, who plays Kate on the NBC show, has just signed a record deal with Universal Music Group Nashville with plans to release her debut Country album later this year.

“To say I am excited to fulfill a lifelong dream is an understatement,” Metz exclaimed in a statement. “Music has always been my first love and to be working alongside Cindy and the incomparable team at UMG is truly a gift!”

In addition to singing in the show, Metz can also be seen performing in the movie Breakthrough. She sings “I’m Standing With You” in the film, and the song was nominated for Best Original Song at the 2020 Oscars earlier this week.

In April, Metz performed the song on the ACM Awards, along with Carrie Underwood, Lauren Alaina, Maddie & Tae, and Mickey Guyton.

On Tuesday January 14, This Is Us returns with guest star John Legend.
